For Dudley’s in New York City, Jimmy created a custom illustrated postcard celebrating the restaurant and its place on the Lower East Side. Rather than depict the storefront as a static architectural rendering, Jimmy filled the scene with the details that give it life: sidewalk tables, abundant greenery, bicycles, street signs, neighboring buildings and the everyday movement of the corner.
Rendered in layered shades of blue with loose black linework, the illustration has the immediacy of an urban sketch and the intimacy of a personal memento. Hand-drawn lettering completes the composition, while the reverse adopts the familiar structure of a traditional postcard.
Placed at each table, the finished piece becomes both part of the dining experience and something guests can take with them—a compact portrait of Dudley’s that captures the character of the restaurant, the street and the neighborhood it calls home.
